Lake Oswego Luxury Kitchen Remodel

Timeless Kitchen Update for A Growing Family

When they first moved into this 2000 home in Lake Oswego, the homeowners knew their kitchen was outdated and needed a remodel. After several months of working with another design-build firm, they felt that their needs were not being heard and came to Lamont Bros. to complete the project.

From the onset, the homeowners knew that their kitchen bore many characteristics of the early 2000s, including orange-stained cabinets, black appliances, and tan granite countertops.

Additionally, as a family that cooks together and involves the kids in the process, the kitchen wasn't laid out right for collaborative cooking. The countertop space didn't allow for specific zones for food prep, cooking, and storage. The range and refrigerator were also placed in awkward locations, causing people to constantly run into each other while cooking.

One of the primary challenges of the project was that the homeowners had already purchased the appliances that they wanted for their kitchen. As a result, our design team worked to accommodate the specific dimensions of these predetermined appliances into the cabinet design for the kitchen.

To address the layout challenges, the homeowners and our design team decided to change the location of every major appliance. This included the sink,

refrigerator, oven, and range. The resulting layout allowed for a more functional cooking process by limiting obstructions in the path between each appliance.

To further relieve the challenges with work zones and traffic flow in the kitchen, we also created a snack and beverage station with refrigerated storage drawers, an ice maker, a built-in coffee maker, and a built-in dishwasher. This station is designed to be both functional and aesthetic, and it's placed outside the inner workings of the kitchen, allowing the kids to access it without interfering with the cooking area.

The new kitchen features fully custom cabinets by Knight Cabinetry, a Portland-based boutique cabinetmaker. For cabinet hardware, the homeowners chose unlacquered brass cabinet pulls and handles, which will patina over time and add character to the kitchen as it ages. The countertops are charcoal soapstone quartz by Silestone, and the backsplash tile is Bedrosian's "Cloe" line.

After completing the remodel, the kitchen now serves as a more functional, welcoming space where the entire family can enjoy quality time spent cooking together. With an updated design specifically created to remain timeless and and classic no matter what's in style, this remodel will serve the family for years to come as their family grows.
